Wet pet foods like patés and 'loaves' often use alginate (that comes from seaweed) to thicken and set the food.

It is also used in some dry pet foods to add essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids and dietary fibres, that can be beneficial for a pet's overall health.
